Love this story and its pulls on my mama heart.

So far, like being told an effective bedtime story.

“I just wish—sometimes I look out at my life, everything I’ve seen so far, and it all looks so—so grotesque. I look for the virtue, I don’t see any. I’m dying for proof of it, you know, proof of something good—something like divinity. But I don’t see it.”

Finally, struggling less, but only because the comments to the obit are funny. 😳

I’ve been so excited for this one after my love of Hamnet. Has been the perfect story to listen to while baking Thanksgiving pies and prepping for the big dinner.

S T R U G G L I N G with this opening. I might give up if it wasn’t my book club’s read and the National Book Award winner. I expected literary. I love literary. I don’t want to have to struggle though.

If the horror story label is turning you away, I’d say so far it’s a ghost story, which is different to me. I suppose if the ghost turns all Freddy Krueger all me I might have to re-consider but so far I like where this is going.

Set in mostly Denver in the 1930s, loving this historic novel.
