Caleb is on page 27 of 353 of The Journals of Father Alexander Schmemann, 1973-1983
“There is no point in converting people to Christ if they do not convert their vision of the world and of life, since Christ then becomes merely a symbol for all that we love and want already—without Him. This kind of Christianity is more terrifying than agnosticism or hedonism.”

Episcopacy is the organic and natural outflow of the Gospel, not mere “institutional” organization.

This has been an incredibly insightful read so far.

“They want me to defend religion, and they want me to give them “proofs.” I just won’t do it. It only confirms them in their skepticism. Because nothing true can be said about God from a posture of defense.”

"Failing to refer finite goods (truth, beauty, and goodness) to the Eternal One (who is True, Beautiful, and Good) is to live in a nonsacramental state. It is to treat the world as an end in itself, instead of as a means to our ultimate end in God."

"If asceticism is possible it is because baptism has already initiated the believer into the paschal mystery of Christ to share in his Resurrection."

Fagerberg is hands down one of my favorite modern day theologians. He is a beautiful writer and thoughtful theologian. A combination which will no doubt make this book a joy to read.
