Such great stories... wish I could hide the book between stuff on my desktop so I could read it like.... now!

I got the digital version, though I'm mostly using the copy which is the website, because it has the videos on it.

Going well -- need to return it to the nypl, but I brought a copy to arrive soonish.

Waited 8 weeks for this hold to come up! It's why I joined the NYPL in the first place. 400+ pages of flat characters, poor battle descriptions, wet sleeves, and murdering each other in various ways, here I come.

An amazing book so far!

Ooooo, full of academic essays, this is better then I thought it was.

Ah, Yoshitsune is done carrying Buddha, or whatever he's been doing, an dis back on Stage -- victory to the Minamoto!

Far more BA then the rest of the Japanese lit I've read so far. This is on level with the Odyssey!

Back to the old grinding wheel.

Finished Volume 1 -- Oy. I have a definite read on this. That it was created/published as sorta entertainment for court lady's of Hein period -- as partial treatise on the times , a treatise to warn, to educate. I also know there's a thousand other ways to read 'the tale of genji' and no doubt this is it's secret to 1000 years of popularity.

Reading this, slowly, with my son. Had to re-read the Whomping Tree part again he liked it so.

This guy is just trying to hard -- sentence's are lacking a certain.... basic common sense. Again, something of a must read/should read and it's defying all attempts at me enjoying the read.

Started reading this on Project Gutenberg just cause I like reading the source material first. Reading "Undaunted Courage" right about, now!

The random change of main character, after the first 2 of the trilogy, was the first sign that this was going down hill fast. I just read two of these damn terrible books following this girl and, while my investment is fairly light, I was expecting to finish out her story, see what great things happen to finish out the trilogy or something.

No no, we're in it to the end with Piemur here...

Reading because after a bunch of crap reading, I need some real literature. Thank you Carver. Of course, I've read the actual story, "Cathedral" itself, it must be required reading for 99% of America, but I haven't really read the others in this stories-collection.

Halfway through and..... look, I understand it's a young adult book and probably isn't for my own consumption.... but that being said it's awefully weak. At the halfway mark and not much as happened. Fully 70% of this damn book has been these kids chattering about being lucky or not. Hell, peoples entire names change to being Lucky this or that. So, we'll see.

You know -- I made fun of the book and called it Bridge-punk. And while the book is still so so, and I'm 99% sure who Doktor Glass is (unless there is some crazy twist at this point) -- I actually quite love the idea of Bridge-Punk.

Can't get more then 10 pages without knowing you are definitely reading a Mieville story! And, awe, this being his first novel and all, it's still definitely him. Past the midway point and it's definitely a good read. Though, mostly, I like seeing the seeds of his other books being born here, like in the beginning where he is remarking about the trains blowing in like ships on a sea, I was like, 'Railsea'!

Fairly awesome so far. There's some problems with the writing, and I have some beef with the Josh character...but hey, it's a good story and it's flowing, so we'll see!

As promised -- Rishathra aplenty. Niven did, however, have undead hordes and survivors holing up before it was cool! My problem, and I'll take SOME of the blame, is that I'm wanting some classic Ringworld story -- and this book wants to throw dozens and dozens of alien names at you. And if you sit in on one of my D&D sessions you may "well, that's the Pot calling the kettle black" but, it's a bit much here....

A stunningly good job of walking the 'Film Noir' path. Having read the bulk of Mieville's wrok at this point, I'm amazed he can be both himself and do the 'Detective int he dark city' thing at the same time.

Well -- my desire to work in an Essay between each book as not went to well. Considering stopping "City and the City" right now to read through an essay and take notes....

So far I'm into it!

About half-way through the re-read and my lovely wife brings home Mieville's "Un Lun Dun" and oh, how fast does dear Mary Shelley get tossed to the way side!

Re-reading it now.... some 15 years later? Half my life ago? Actually, a bunch of stuff in the Bioshock: Rapture book had me thinking on it and I couldn't for the life of me remember the stuff I wanted to from it.

I see -- it's almost exactly here where Rishathra raises it's broad, blunted snout..... I can see how this might break up the sciency nature of the fiction and follow an stranger route altogether.....
