Based on the first couple dozen pages it's already 6* material.... that's right, and 11 is on the horizon.

It's a bot more manic then the first two. With 3 (4?) points of view rather then just the 1 we get in the first two books. Well, PARALYSIS IS NOT A COGENT ANALYSIS, onward!

90 pages in and we're still building up Control. I loves the first book so much and the dark-weird vibe is still going, but I'm about ready for us to move along now.

Sidetracked by other books!

It's got it's problems already and it's dated. but I've been a bad sci-fi fan not reading all these years, so this year, shall be different!

The translation is suffering from the simile's not being embedded. They get tacked on to the end of paragraphs and kind of flap in the wind. Makes it read like the Illiad or the Aeneid or something.

Second book in a row like this... where by pg 5 you have a bar, a drinking problem, an entire o.k. corral shootout, mass racism, 3 dead men, refugees and cuban politics thrown in your face like boiling water.... some authors can get a lot done with very little... which is what drives me crazy when I read other books and 200 pages pass without anything of substance....

The history is winding down and we're getting to the theoretical maths!

Doing this one via Audiobook -- probably the best type of book to digest that way. Might even add to it in this case :-P

Mah book is falling apart... damn cheap 1966 paperbacks....

Tears it up right from the beginning.

More on the Pak end of things for the 'Known Space' series, not so much on the protector's themselves, so far.

Short chapters, written like a bunch of mini essays. Not too bad, actually.

Bova gets right into it in this one! However, it hasn't really grabbed me yet, like the first one did.

Very interesting but also a little difficult to read. I mean, what made her this was bad enough but then it becomes about how best to use her as a scientific subject. About as dehumanizing as it can get.

1 of 3 sci-fi books with sentient ships I'm probably going to end up reading this year. I'll stack'em up to see what humanity really thinks of their future here.

Good, but I'm not sure this global B.C. interrelated trade thing is going to hold up...

Well, n/m, the movie does start exactly like the book. But I assume budgetary restraints make it take a TOTALLY different path.

the movie seems pretty faithful, saw it first. More fun with words in the book though :D

Smells just like the mass market paper backs I read as a kid. Read two pretty bad books so my standards are low enough this should be an okay read! #nostalgicd&d

It's like that damn fluffy 'Garlic' book... just with cold instead of dirty hands. Also, the authors cephalopoid love-affair is mildly uncomfortable.... and this is from me who loves the damn things!

Sh** literally just happens. "Show don't tell" is out the window, hell, I think "Tell" is out the window... What I have is just a novelized list of events....

Man, sometimes tt's nice to read about just how much effing better we have it today then it was 150 years ago....

Maybe I'd appreciate it a little more if I weren't trying to wrap my head around another language already, but otherwise it's great so far.
