It's very clearly a debut novel but I'm intrigued and the (as of now only hinted but hopefully to become more) nb/w romance is something I really want to see play out!

I'm so confuuuused.... but I'm kind of loving it

The books has 222 pages and only on the last 5 pages or so it's developing into more than boredom and confusion for me... I'm really glad I'm 1) buddy reading this and 2) even my friend who suggested it is feeling meh about it.

okay, but did he really have to write the ex-husband as a "hero" for having "almost no sexual thoughts" at the his ex wife's breakdown in a nightgown? did he really have to segway an emotionally intimate moment into sex? did he really have to compare a white girl with a face full of mud to a minstrel show? did he really have to sexualize two 9 year old girls, and hate on sex workers in the same sentence??

... do nine year olds usually fantasize about kissing middle aged baseball players or???

ngl I'm mostly bored and just feeling meh about this.... I wish I could dnf it but NO it's a uni book...

... a lot of those themes hit uncomfortably close to home... could this book stop @ing me all the time??
