Bless tight deadlines. Bless no spending on a proofreader. All the typos are a wonderful break from the actual words. This whatever it is is from 1984. Shockingly, this indicates that our 1984 was somehow worse than even Orwell’s 1984. Someone needs to tell the characters - in any one of these chapters - that constant fondling of breasts does kill forward momentum in the plot.

I mean, it’s busted functional. The writing is turd, with the special reeky shit used to make the die-yah-log. I’ll manage somehow.

Nauseating from the start. I don't know if I'm up for this. Might as well just read Extreme Horror. Oh well.

I bought this because at the time a trash Western seemed appealing, and since then I have wondered what the heck was in my head, and I have stopped from injecting this into my system. But I’m finally going to get it off my plate.

This book has webbed up my brain, for liquifying and devouring later. Every aspect of it is so vile. I'm probably like so many readers - ambushed. But I'm not turning against it, though I can understand that. It's morbidly fascinating - everything that happens is repellently intoxicating. One of the most gangrenous Crime novels I have ever met.

Holy wholly unholy, Batman! - this is much darker and more demented than I was expecting. I can see why this has a low average score - this would catch a lot of readers by surprise. First of all, Cosy-seekers, walk away! If you need likeable characters, get your 1-star or DNF comments sharpened up. With the chapter I just read, I thought we might some full-on Wasp Factory shite going on. Not quite there, yet…

I have to say, quite a dark and morbid start to this book. I've made note of the low mean rating for the book at the website - but I am already hooked on finding out where this troubling domestic situation is going.

Sort of a three-star anthology, thus far. I need a few of these tales to wow me. The Julian Symons story - much as I enjoyed some of his novels - seemed particularly uninspired and transparent. Anyway, next is Roy Vickers, and we'll see how that goes.

Let’s see if Radley can get more than 3 stars, with my second visit.

Very entertaining - I’m always a little sad that I don’t have one last Miss Silver novel stashed away to read, but the Wentworth style, pace, and tension, a tricky premise…I’m getting all that here.

This morning, I read 'The Beautiful Stranger', 'All She Said Was Yes', 'What A Thought', 'The Bus', and 'Family Treasures' - these were all great stories; unsettling, tick-infested, anxiety-inducing, all that deliciousness.

Ah, the old “confusing ending/whuh??” effect - haven’t we all had to deal with short Horror fiction that is hard to decipher - especially an ending! I was hoping not to have that sort of reaction to any of these Dark Tales…but it’s okay. I halfway expected a bit of that. If you’ve done Ramsey Campbell, you’ve been prepared for this. Overall, the tales have worked for me, some of them are tricky to “get”.

So, this is up sooner than expected; the Helen Reilly "2 books in 1" book I was dealing with had an "Abridged" notice for The Canvas Dagger - so I'm putting that book aside after reading Not Me, Inspector (which does not say "Abridged"). Meanwhile - it seems so long ago that I felt disappointed with Haunting of Hill House, but eventually read so many by Jackson that I loved. Now, short stuff!

Well, I’d love to finish this tonight, but I’m a bit tired, and will chill with the Vancouver hockey, instead. This book is running at about 4 stars with me, and I have learned oodles. I will save the “Talk of Alexander” for tomorrow morning, and the Epilogue. I am about ready for some fiction, a Crime novel or two…
