Sometimes you begin a book and it claws its way into your mind and soul within the first five pages

Thought I had broken the curse of hating 80% of all books I read….

Disliked it at the beginning, grew to love it for a bit but now as I’m approaching the end I‘m kinda pissed.

I enjoyed the flawed characters while I thought there was going to be some development during the story. Instead this reads like a male fantasy in which a line of convenient coincidences lead to the main character becoming an insane badass in laughably little time.

Feeling very mellow about this so far

Everything is awful and everyone is dying but at least God is still making bad jokes about his huge-self-defense-cattle-bones and flesh-cube ✨

This is so oddly wholesome after the last two books. Nona my beloved 🥺 Her love for the world is making me so warm and fuzzy. That and the little family of DID adjacent knife mum/grumpy dad and casually trans, black cat mum with their amnesiac daughter. This series is my everything.

This sucks, I dont wanna finish but Im already more than halfway through 😭

Also what is it with vampirism and slavery in this?? It’s a really poor comparison and vampirism usually does so well with being a metaphor for queerness as the show explicitly shows. Constantly comparing the relationships to slavery has some really odd implications. Ew

God this is so hard to read after the show. Never said this before but the show is SO much better than the book.
I‘m honestly unsure if I can finish this the way that Louis keeps being a straight up pedophile. How the fuck do people rate this 5 stars??

God I love Tamsyn Muir. This also makes much more sense the second time I read it. Never read a book series which is worth a re-read as much as this one

Kinda good so far. I like the perspective of death(??) & The poetic but also realistic depiction of the body

So Lyle's story had about as much nuance as a brick.

Liked the discussion of immigration but that's it. Everything else was flat and caricature like and the moral was beaten around my head so much that I'm dizzy.

So far this book has been a list of all the things going wrong in the world and not much more.

It's the point, I know, but I wish there was a bit more behind this story than just constant bleakness.
And it's not the provocative kind of bleakness, it just feels almost nihilistic in a way.

Again, probably the point but it's not really telling me anything I don't know yet, it's just making me frustrated.

Is this fantasy? Is it an analysis of the humanity and the house is purgatory?? Am I going insane??? Idk but I like it

Erin Morgenstern has a habit of making characters fall in love with each other very suddenly but I'll take it since the rest of her books are so wonderful :D

I feel a bit weird about the narrative using he/him for a character that presents as male but internally confirms they feel female at that moment.
It's probably to make it less confusing for the reader when characters use Claude to refer to the character but in combination with a few other kinda minor issues I have with the writing, pacing and the rep it kinda makes me not wanna continue :(
