reading for sapph-lit bookclub!

i shit you not, this is part of this book about the love interest I presume we are supposed to be enticed by: "At this moment, Gary wishes he could grab her and force her, at least until she gave in. He’d like to make love to her right here, he’d like to do it all night and not give a damn about anything else, and not listen if she told him not" HUH????

i seriously cannot finish this lol I really like the concept but the drunken stream of consciousness chapters are simply too much for me to persist. dnfing until i can finish it on audiobook

y'all i finally got libby and it has changed my life...my horizons have been so expanded with all these new options

i want to like this so badly but iiiiiidk. so many lists and paragraphs on paragraphs of historical recounting which like, fair enough, it's historical fiction, but it feels like for one page of plot there's five pages of historical background (which is a little funky in itself since this is magical realism)

this is good but it's taking me truly forever to get through. in the worst reading slump and i was in the hospital so i'll need to change up my reading vibes after this

listening to an audiobook because my head will not free me from migraines

listen i know A Little Life has good prose but... y'all don't think it's a little weird that a cis straight woman wrote and profited off a queer trauma story that heavily relies on harmful stereotypes like csa in the gay community...? it's giving queer tourism
not only a little life but all her books heavily involve gay characters and the fantastical ways she can torture them... why?

the folks who advertised this as a reading slump book left out how bad it is
