Would you believe that I'm just about at the cusp of chapter 1? I'm a bit behind in the book club, oh well! Marx's introduction contains a fabulous response to some positive and negative reviews of Kapital. It's cool to engage with criticism before reading the primary text (sometimes).

Ernest Mandel introduces Marx's theories and includes snippets of marxian criticism from a limited historical vantage point; since 1976 the anti-capitalist movement and leftist revolutionary theory has changed with the times. I would appreciate if Penguin updatednthe introduction, even if that would make the text even longer.

Capital reading group begins this Saturday. Am I foolish to add yet another daunting summer project?

Sartre's preface really hits home..."your passiveness serves no other purpose but to put you on the side of the oppressors."

Don't get me wrong, Cortázar is an incredible story teller—I've just been afraid to read him. Now that I don't have to translate every other word, this collection of short stories will be spared from my over eager hand not having scribbles all over the text (however, making a good reading note continues to be necessary!)
