I never read this as a child but my daughter asked me to read it before she did, I think she was nervous about the dogs fate at the end lol. Really cute book though, I think she’ll love it

Our 1st summer read aloud! Reading out loud to my children is one of my favorite things—I love the discipleship that happens as a result, so many deep and meaningful conversations.
I read this book in maybe 5th or 6th grade. It definitely has more mature themes—alcoholism, abandonment, broken families, poverty. The kids are enjoying seeing a different side of a being a PK than what they have experienced.
