Hilarious and sad — perfect Brautigan

Wow. The whole "rich Queer" scene and repetition of that phrase 22 fucking times in 5 fucking pages is fucking disgusting. That's a DNF from this poor Queer.

"What troops are you, my boys?" Lee said.
"The Texans!" the men yelled and quickly formed into battle lines. There were less than a thousand of them and they started forward toward that abyss of Federal troops.

Haven't read this one in a bit. A few spots that I'm not sure I'm comfortable with on the re-read, but every once in a while he still hits with a particular sentence or simile. I'm not even sure I fully believe in or endorse this sentiment, but my golly I'd love to be able to pull this one out when someone's other was riding them a bit too hard: "Don't let her tan your balls and make a wallet out of them."

I haven't been impressed by Brautigan since "In Watermelon Sugar" but I'll keep looking for gems

The day you realize you're more Brautigan than McCarthy. More Vonnegut than Carver. Not a bad day.

This is the funniest book I've read since Confederacy of Dunces. LoLing regularly.

Laugh out loud funny. A dry, dark humor. Loving it.

The whiskey went well. I wish I could have offered the stars a drink. Looking down upon mortals, they probably need a drink from time to time, certainly on a night like this. We got drunk.

Figure two pounds of muscatel apiece at twenty per cent alcohol: forty proof. We were still very rocky from a night of whiskey drinking. That's two pounds of muscatel multiplied, squared and envisioned. This can all be worked out with computers.

Not as delightful as remembered, but still a bit of fun to read.

Another reread from a past that seems too long ago.
