Personally, Korie feels such potentially revelatory addition to character influences; early on I've been intrigued by Stamets' conception: this devoted mushroom scientist - as obviously inspired by the namesake; decidedly not an engineer, but in charge of a huge starship Engineering operation. With a personality from who knows where.

However actual or not, it's exciting to see possible traces of that etymology here.
