Finished Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado,” a weird little story (as I probably should have expected). The 6-page story (in large print) centers around the narrator’s revenge on a sick and drunk man. The wrong that he committed is never told, making it weirder.

Finished Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado,” a weird little story (as I probably should have expected). The 6-page story (in large print) centers around the narrator’s revenge on a sick and drunk man. The wrong that he committed is never told, making it weirder.

The first short story is Rappaccini’s Daughter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Typical of writers from that time, it is slow to start, and the ending comes really fast. It’s about a girl whose scientist father raised her with poisonous flowers so that her breath and scent is now poison. And it’s about the young man who begins to fall for her and becomes Rappaccini’s second test subject. Interesting enough, but old language.
