Lestat talks about his mastiffs more than he talks about everything else in this book, even more than he talks about himself. He just keeps bringing up how much he loved and now misses his dogs. And then he takes the German shepherd from Raglan James and makes sure to tell the reader the dog is beautiful and belongs to him now, and does nothing else in the narrative, so we know he’s safe.
