That ending was different. Where was the climax of the book?

"What was your favorite toy?" I asked as we turned onto Pacific.

"What? You mean, like--sexually?"

"No. Jesus. I mean when you were a little kid."

I wish the constant wisecracking would stop. I usually like it, but when every character does it, it starts getting old.

Did they seriously just smoke a joint? Because if they did I'd really have to wonder about why that was included. But maybe I missed something? It was referred to as both a joint and a cigarette so I'm kind of confused.

"Has this always been here?" I asked.

"It's new."

"But--just to be clear--we have a high-security hotel suite in the lab. With cable."

"You can't use it."

"But I hate sleeping on the couch in the break room."

"You don't have to. You can sleep at home, like other people."

"Is that bed a queen?"

"You're never using this room. Understand?"

I sighed (cont in comment)

"Is there coffee? If I'm going to be conscious, there should at least be coffee."

"I'm sure Derrick's making some."

"I'm not a domestic," he called from the kitchen.

"But you're making some, right?"

A pause. "Yeah."
