Finished the folktales section. I'll likely take a break from this now and return to it in the summer.

I've now finished the jazz, R&B, hip hop, and sermon/prayer sections of the anthology. Most of the accompanying songs on the first audio CD were a pleasure to listen to. The poetry of MLK's sermons is amazing. Malcolm X is of course much more political. I am looking forward to listening to the recordings of two of these sermons on the second CD later.

This was a good $12 find at Half Priced books, and I'm looking forward to digging into it. I've gotten through the introduction, and the first three song sections (Negro spirituals, Gospel, and work songs). It comes with a CD containing select songs. I grew up hearing some of these in grammar school music class or at home, but I was never taught the context and origin, so I've enjoyed the anthology notes.
