Feeling as if this is a fascinating precursor to a lot of the ideas in "Borne," which I loved and couldn't put down. Delving into JV's earliest work is interesting and rewarding (for me); his evolution as a writer and the way he refines the themes and ideas that transfix him is pretty inspirational on a personal level.
