Johnson is one of my favorite authors. That said, one could easily edit out 30% of this book where Johnson is trying with all his might to align innovation with evolution. Poor science hinted by Johnson, perhaps the worst is his anecdote of Archaeopteryx jumping from a tree and discovering it can fly. Quite embarrassing, and honestly does not contribute to the theme expressed in the title of the book.

I- I-.. I'm speechless. I will never forgive myself for undermining this book. Might as well highlight everything at this point.

What a fluid and beautiful writing. The font and formatting of the text in my edition is so aesthetically pleasing.

I ordered this book thinking it'd be a guide on how to come up with good ideas. When It arrived I realized that It's "The natural history of innovation". As an aspiring UX designer with a creativity drought, I was a bit let down of my honest mistake. After a bit of thinking I've come to understand that, to be an innovator, it would be benefitial to study our vast history of other great innovations. Let's go!

"Perhaps the history of the errors of mankind, all things considered, is more valuable and interesting than that of their discoveries. Truth is uniform and narrow; it constantly exists, and does not seem to require so much an active energy, as a passive aptitude of soul in order to encounter it. But error is endlessly diversified." - Benjamin Franklin

"When the first market towns emerged in Italy, they didn't magically create some higher-level group consciousness. They simply widened the pool of minds that could come up with and share good ideas. This is not the wisdom of the crowd, but the wisdom of someone in the crowd. It's not that the network itself is smart; it's that the individuals get smarter because they're connected to the network."

"The trick to having good ideas is not to sit around in glorious isolation and try to think big thoughts. The trick is to get more parts on the table."

Easy to read and inspiring. It has helped me go back to old habits that seemed to have lost there value but upon reflection may have been creating a value previously unaccounted for.
