Fremont went south down the Central Valley, then east to try to rejoin the “remainder of the expedition”. He ended up at the “headwaters of the North Fork of the Kings”, between Blackcap and Crown Basins, hard against the White Divide. Those basins are already at 10,000 feet, with the Divide another steep thousand feet above, although if they'd made it to Cathedral Lake, wouldn't they see Finger Col?!?

I’ve gotten too bewildered at trying to picture all the explorations based on my recollections of my trips and memories of the maps. Gonna go back to the beginning of this marvelous chapter and do it again with my maps beside me.
