a well written account of the the most famous renaissance dome.

Intriguing

Interesting book. I do with there were more figures showing some of the intriguing engineering work that Brunelleschi did. Picturing the designs was not always easy. Overall it's a light, quick read.

For now it's not about Brunelleschi or Santa Maria del Fiore, it's about me missing Florence and its exquisite atmosphere.

Just what won the wardens round to the merits of Filippo's project is unclear.

He inscribed on strips of parchment a series of cryptic symbols and Arabic numbers: a secret code, that is, like the reversed handwriting that Leonardo da Vinci would later use to describe his own inventions.

Many years later he would travel to Ferrara intent upon murdering one of his runaway apprentices.
