Status Updates From Crucial Conversations

I'm not really digging this novel. It's for book club, so I'm committed. The dialogue seems unrealistic; the characters are super wealthy, so it's possible I just don't get it because I don't talk like Robin Leach. Also, the main character is a 50-something guy who is dealing with the emotional upheaval caused by the divorce of his best friends. He's utterly distraught, which I don't really find believable.

oh I love May Sarton! "People marry because they are terrified of not getting married. Marriage covers up a lot of insecurity, looks in itself like 'success' of a kind, I suppose."

"For her the simplest things became momentous because she lived her deepest self so close to the surface. This frightened and even outraged some people."

I know I do a lot of updates, but it helps me to keep on pace.

The dissolution of a marriage as seen from the perspective of the couple's best friend; forcing him to look at both views. Good so far.

Sarton was a prolific and, evidently, a fairly major author. Love the link of public-private ethos at the start of the book.
