Status Updates From Glory Lane

I guess I’m mostly okay with the book. Strangely, for this being what I think of as a “pulp” book, the author is peppering the narrative with words that are… well, of a higher reading level than expected. It’s not just the main character who talks this way—it’s the narrator, too. I don’t have specific examples, and it’s not like post-grad level writing or anything, but it’s certainly elevated.

I dislike the protagonist: a sexist, racist high school dropout. I’m afraid I’m meant to like him. I don’t. Haven’t gotten to the sci-fi stuff yet but from reading the synopsis I know it’s close. It allegedly starts in a bowling alley and the main character, Seeth (not “seethe” but “Seeth”… rhymes with “teeth”), is now in said bowling alley. Any moment now.

Audiobook. I thought I was done with audiobooks for a while but I realized there’s a time I listen to them other than while driving, and that is while cleaning the cat litter boxes. I have this author’s QUOZL on my WTRs because I saw it at Half-Price Books once and liked the cover, but that book wasn’t available on audio through my library - this was. Let’s see how long it takes me to finish. 😬
