I found it interesting the theory according to which the bonobos are so peaceful and matriarchal because they lived in areas with many reaosuces of food, whereas the chimp lived in territories with less food resources, and they were in competiiton witht he gorillas for it. Whatever the explanation, it is clear to me that they are the hippies of the family. Their evolution is a mystery, and a miracle.

I've had this book on my to-read list and book wish list for probably twenty years. Wasn't a high priority, so didn't buy it. Finally got some sense - started going through old lists & instead of waiting for someone to give me these, or to find an inexpensive copy at a second-hand store, borrowing from the library (which I hadn't thought to check for many of these, for some reason). Looking forward to reading this.
