Status Updates From Shadows at Midnight

Oh my goodness. I think I just read a chapter that didn't reference his past sexual history. Chapter 17. There's only 22 chapters in the whole thing.

Again with the thinking about past sex partners. Why does the author insist on throwing this up so much? I get it, he's fucked any woman he's come across any time he wanted, which was obviously all the freaking time. The constant reminder of his sexual history is really pulling me out of the story.

Another reminder of all the sex he's had. He's just had sex with Claire and they've escaped from the bad guys and he's still thinking of past hook ups. Also now thinking on the random women that have offered to have sex with him this past year.

And of course she hasn't had sex in 4 to 5 years. Shocker. I'll bet her experiences have never been any good and he's just the man to change that lol.

Ok so they're getting down to it and he says I haven't had sex for a year, which is about the time of the bombing. He had been at the Laka embassy for a week when the bombing happened, so I guess he found time in that week to get sex from someone. Which only serves as a reminder that he's full of shit when he says he's obsessed with her.

"Way out in the field, where there were no women to help you get rid of your hard-on, soldiers used their fists. After combat, barracks smelled like goats had died in there." I just laughed so damn hard at that.

Finally a past lover of hers is mentioned. All in her head of course but still it's a nice change from hearing his past sex life constantly. Of course hers had to be a pansy ugh.

Apparently all the inner crap about OW is just to show how different Claire is from the very numerous OW that he's been with. Dear author, there are better ways of doing that than shoving the image of the so-called hero with OW down our throat every few pages.

Seriously, why do I have to keep reading about the women he's been with and how little they meant to him. I understand that he's an emotional cripple, the author doesn't have to keep driving home that fact by having his inner voice remind us every few pages.

So he's not had sex in a year, omg give the man a medal. He's been dating this whole time. So much for him grieving the entire year. Am I seriously supposed to give him credit for not having sex with the many women he's dated?

So chapter 2 was all her internal monolog instead of his. Not digging the writing style.

l laughed and cheered when he got punched just now. I'm not even gonna lie, he's an ass and I don't know who did it or why, but it made me laugh.

Omg, he's thinking about sex with other women while they're kissing. I'm so hating this idiot man child.

He has so much internal crap running through his mind. He's having entire page long conversations with himself, mostly about the women he's hooked up with in the past. He's basically told himself, internally, that she's a snobby bitch that's never noticed him and now he's kissing her.

It's just reprehensible that he behaves this way. I don't like to read about heroes OW and he's had a lot. True most have been before her but 3, that we know of, were after he became "obsessed" with her. I hope she has no idea who he is and leaves him "pining", but honestly, he's not doing any pining really. If he's able to get it up and do these other women, then Claire isn't his obsession.

So ya, this guy is already on my crappy heroes list. Dan sees Claire, the heroine at a dinner party where he is working security. He, according to his own inner monologue, became immediately obsessed with her. This is false. He proceeds to date and have sex with 3 more women while they are apart for 1 year. One has an annoying voice, one was kind of scary, the other was boring. Didn't stop him from using them.

So ya, now he's internally going over all the ways he's picked up random women in bars. I'm glad the author thoughtfully included all this, I'm totally digging all this fascinating information. This guy is sounding more and more like a pig. I'm only on page 11!!!

Oh good, now he's sitting beside her holding her hand and thinking about how he needs to go out and get laid. This guy is a real swoon worthy winner.

Way too much inner reflection going on.

I just found out that Lisa Marie Rice and Elizabeth Jennings are the same writer. I don't understand, this book and Nightfire are virtually the same book written under different names.
