This is he second of Gerald Durrell's books I've read. I am amazed it took me so long to discover them. They are written with astonished joy and reverence for nature and a sweet and rare sense of humor. He tells such stories about people and absolutely gushes over the biological wonders of our world. I learned of him via the PBS Masterpiece series, "The Durrells of Corfu."

Got this from the sale rack at Wonder Book for $1.59 or maybe five items for $5. The cover is gorgeous and I loved the way Andre Braugher said “The Durrells of Corfu” on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Laughing my head off. This sequel is amazing.

Margo is sent to London for some treatment and gets involved with a dodgy spiritualist. Mother and gerry have to go to London to collect her and return her to corfu. Where the olives are ready to pick and press so the family help collect them too.

Gerry is having more adventures in corfu. He squires a donkey and many more creatures. Some from the sea this time which he keeps in a rock pool.

Hilarious characters.

Lo bien que me lo paso con estos libros no tiene precio. Súper divertidos e interesantes, se aprende un montón sobre el mundo animal.

I went to read by the river in the morning to enjoy some sunlight and nature. Watching little fishes swimming under the surface really enhanced the experience of reading about various animals and all kinds of hijinks. There was even a family of three mallard ducks that came by to beg for some food! 🦆🥰

This family is so hilariously nutty! I could not handle living with them for a day but it makes for deliciously fun reading. 😂

So delightful so far! So fun to be back in Corfu!

Delightful ... and hilarious ... start to the second book in the Corfu Trilogy. 😄

A fantastic loop back to the Durrell family’s time in Corfu. The 1st book left me wanting more and this instalment is giving me what I want.

God I love this family

Surprisingly, there's a graphic scene of a woman giving birth. I did not expect that, but it was actually a bit interesting as Gerry saw it from a very natural point of view as a ten year old.

Durrell can be riotously funny.

Immensely charming.

A wonderful book to read aloud - funny, beautiful and interesting.

p. 79: "Here the black tadpoles, sleek and shiny as licorice drops, disported in the shallows like plump herds of hippos in some African river."

Es tan bueno como el primero. Como dice Louise Durrell, ella es la única cuerda de la familia :___).
