Status Updates From Marcelo in the Real World

What is wrong with me that this book is making me cry? I’m really, really loving this.

Very much enjoying this so far.

I love Marcelo and I think sometimes I am Marcelo!

Reading from an autistic character’s perspective feels nearly identical to reading from Edward Cullen’s perspective in Midnight Sun… lots to think about here guys

Interesting so far!! I like Marcelo a lot

A literary element I found in my book was the plot character vs society because Marcelo faces the hardship of following the rules of the world. He constantly messes up and cant do simple tasks fast.

One appeal, I found in my reading today was pathos, when Jasmine asked Marcelo what was wrong with him and why he acts so weird. It makes the reader feel sad for Marcelo, empathizing with him.

I am struggling, not because of the book but the ADHD is coming in hot and so I'm very spacey. But trying to get to Chapter 16/pg. 157, wish me luck

This book has prompted me to ask why people look and treat autistic and neurodivergent people as subhuman and as if they are useless and idiotic.

The best part of my reading today was when Marcelo made a funny joke about mail and stamps. It was What did the envelope say to the stamp? “Stick with me, we’ll go places!” Hahahahahaha

What most surprised me in my book was when Marcelo's dad told him to stop talking to himself in third person and called him weird.

Hypothalamus is the word I chose, and it means a part of the brain that uses memory. This intrigued me because ive seen it before.

Roast a character: Toby is dorky and unfunny, nobody likes him in the book and they wouldnt in real life too

Idk if I don’t like this book bc I need to read it for school or bc it’s actually boring probably both but I haven’t read in it for 2 weeks and the deadline is in 2 weeks and I read quite fast but I just can’t do it and I can’t dnf it bc its for school

I love this! It gives an amazing outlook of what it’s like to live with autism, and I love Jasmine! The plot is very good, and I love the little mysteries and how the teens are trying to solve stuff themselves.

Overall. liking this a lot better than The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. I could have done without the lengthy vulgarities regarding bovine mating proclivities. Once was plenty. That second round pretty well shunted this out of the YA recommendation realm. Pity, that.

Not sure why Marcelo's dad thinks a law office half-full of vile people is a good example of the "real world" for his innocent on-spectrum son... Is he really that daft?

I suspect I'm going to loathe Wendell...
