A rumor seriously began to circulate that the hostage-taking (American Embassy) had been carried out on Carter’s own orders... that Carter had planned the hostage-taking so that before the presidential election the hostages would be released and this would boost his vote in the election. It is quite possible that this rumor had a role in delaying the release of the hostages until Carter had lost the election.

(1970s) The growing welfare, higher consumption, greater employment opportunities and rapid expansion of education, which were almost
entirely due to direct and indirect state expenditure, were not only taken
for granted but were dismissed as insignificant...

Like his father before him, the shah was an Aryanist nationalist of the modern breed, not the stooge of western imperialism virtually all his subjects believed him to be...he saw social and economic development as an attempt to resemble western Europe and later America. He was embarrassed by Iran’s status as a poor and underdeveloped country...
He did not see himself as another Xerxes but as a modern Cyrus the Great.

Are we mad at Reza Khan now for wanting to omit foreign words from Farsi and building roads and railway and encouraging girls to go to school and sending young people to Europe to get educated and come back and teach in Iranian schools and building the Tehran University and bringing order to the country...?
