Status Updates From Black Diamond

The plot drags a bit and doesn’t really develop it’s just back-and-forth that staggers along. I feel like Zakes Mda could've made it more thrilling. It reminds me of The Reed Dance Stalker by Angela Makholwa, where you actually feel that rush but the feeling never quite lands but it’s still entertaining.

Ma-Don-za is definitely my favorite character in this book, and I’m honestly really enjoying it.

The book is definitely a page-turner and I’m enjoying it so far, but I have to say it really feels like I’m reading something by Zukiswa Wanner or Niq Mhlongo. The writing style are so similar, and that’s something I don’t like about many South African authors. There’s always some historical context, post-apartheid themes. It reads like the kind of book you’d study in a university English or history course
