The people attending his funeral heard a voice from the direction of the house saying, “Peace be upon you, people of the house, and God’s mercy and blessings. In God is comfort from every calamity, and He is what remains after everything perishes, and He is what is reached after all that is missed, so be conscious of God, and wish for him. For truly the one who is in calamity is deprived of forgiveness.”

No one grasped what he said except Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه‎), whose eyes overflowed with tears and he cried out, “We would sacrifice our fathers and mothers, ourselves and our wealth for you, O Messenger of God!” The Prophet ﷺ then descended from the pulpit and he did not last an hour longer.

During his final illness, the Prophet ﷺ entered his mosque with his head wrapped in a cloth and he ascended the pulpit and said, “By the One who holds my soul in His Hand, I surely can see the Fountain from my station! A servant has been offered the world and its ornaments and he chose the other world.”

Anas (رضي الله عنه‎) said, “The Messenger of God ﷺ had a clear complexion, his veins were like pearls, and when he walked he bent forward. I have not touched brocade or silk softer than the palm of the Prophet’s ﷺ hand, or smelt musk or ambergris sweeter than the Prophet’s ﷺ odour.”

“The relationship between me and the prophets who came before me is as the analogy of a man who built a beautiful house, but in which the space of one brick was left incomplete. The onlookers go around it, admiring the beauty its construction, with the exception of the place of that brick. Now I have filled up the place of that brick: in me the building is completed, and in me the messengers are completed.”

“I am the closest to Jesus, son of Mary, among the whole of mankind in this worldly life and the next. Prophets are brothers in faith, having different mothers. Their religion is one, and there is no prophet between me and him.”

“I am nothing but a mercy given freely.”

“So if you are able to not be among the children of this world, then do so! For today you are in the adobe of action without reckoning, and tomorrow you will be in the adobe of reckoning without action”

“What I fear most for my community is vain desire and wishful thinking. As for desire, it prevents from you from the Truth. As for wishful thinking, it makes you forget the other world. Know that this world is in motion, and it is receding; and the other world is in motion, and it is approaching; and each world has its children.”

The prophet ﷺ slept on a reed mat and when he got up its imprint was on his body. Ibn Mas’ud said to him, “O Messenger of God, if you had just told us, we would have prepared for you a comfortable bed.” The prophet ﷺ told him, “What do I have to do with this world? My relationship to it is only as a rider who rests temporarily under the shade of a tree and then moves on and leaves it behind.”

“You see the believers in their mutual mercy, love and, affection like one body. When one member suffers, the rest of the body inclines towards it with sleeplessness and fever”

“Modesty is from faith, and faith is of paradise. Obscenity is from hardness of the heart, and hardness is of Hell”

Jahimah came to the prophet ﷺ and said, “Messenger of God, I want to go on a military expedition and I have come to consult you.” The prophet ﷺ asked if his mother was alive. When he replied that she was, he said to him, “Stay with her, for paradise is at her feet.”

Turning around, he recognised the prophet ﷺ and remained close against the prophets ﷺ chest. The prophet ﷺ playfully called out, “Who will buy this slave?” To which Zahir responded, “Messenger of God, you will find me to be worthless good, I swear by God. The prophet ﷺ said to him, “But in God’s sight you are not worthless goods!”

A Bedouin named Zahir used to come to prophet ﷺ for provisions on a regular basis. He was a very ugly man but the prophet ﷺ loved him and used to say, “Zahir is our wilderness and we are present with him”. The prophet ﷺ came upon him one day when he was selling goods and put his arms around him from behind. “Let me go! Who is this?” he cried.

“Every one of my community is pardoned except for the flaunters. Flaunting is when one commits an act of disobedience during the night, and then, although God has concealed it for him, brags to someone in the morning that he did such-and-such the previous night. He slept under the protection of God, and in the morning, he removes God’s protection from him.”

“No one accuses another of disobedience to God or of infidelity without it recoiling on him, if the other is not as he said”

“Among the beautiful qualities of a person’s Islam is to leave alone what does not concern him”

The prophet ﷺ had a camel which could not be beaten in a race. One day, a Bedouin came with a camel and he won the race with her. This was hard on the Muslims, but the prophet ﷺ said to them, “It is God’s right that whatever becomes exalted in the world, He eventually causes it to be brought low.”

“You are eager to have authority, but it will be your regret on the Day of Resurrection, for power is the best of breasts to suckle, but it is the worst to be weaned from”

“The best jihad is when one speaks the truth in the presence of a tyrannical ruler”

The prophet ﷺ never expressed criticism of any food. If he liked it he ate it, and if he disliked it he left it alone.

A’ishah (رضي الله عنها) said, “God’s Messenger ﷺ liked sweets and honey.”

“The one who eats and gives thanks is like the one who fasts and shows patience.”

“Do not ask for authority, for if you are given it as a result of asking, you will be left to deal with it yourself; but if you are given it without asking, you will be helped in undertaking it.”

“Consult yourself. Consult your heart (x3). Right is what your inner self and heart feel secure with, and wrong agitates your inner self and brings doubt to the heart, no matter how much advice ppl give you.”

The Prophet ﷺ on Supplication:

“Ask God of His bounty, for God likes to be asked, and the most excellent worship is to wait patiently for relief.”

The one who seeks forgiveness is not bent on sinning, even if he were to relapse seventy times a day.”

The Prophet ﷺ on Kindness, Charity and Zakat:

“Give without calculating lest God calculate concerning you; and don’t hold back lest God hold back from you. Give as much as you are able to.”

“A generous ignorant man is more beloved to Allah than a stingy scholar.”

The Prophet ﷺ on Afflictions and Death:

When a funeral passed, God’s Messenger ﷺ said, “He has either been relieved or others have been relieved of him. The faithful servant is relieved, by God’s Mercy, from the hardship and hurt of the world. As for the tyrannical servant, the rest of us are relieved of his harm, including the land, trees, and animals”

The Prophet ﷺ on Prayer:

“The earth is a place of prostration for you, whenever the time for prayer arrives, pray wherever you are”
“The nearest a servant comes to his Lord is when he is prostrate in prayer, so increase your supplications when you are in prostration”

Many, many more but I’m tired (I’ll be sure to write the others down).

The Prophet ﷺ on Purification:

“Everyone sets out each day and trades his soul, either emancipating it or oppressing it”
“As he washes his face every sin he contemplated with his eyes will come out from his face (…). And when he washes his feet every sin towards which his feet have walked will come out (…), so that he will come forth pure from all sin”

There are many more but I’m tired.

The Prophet ﷺ on Islam, Faith, and Righteousness:

“The heart is like a feather in a desert country, which the wind keeps turning over and over”

“The devil is to man as the wolf is to sheep; he stalks them, catching the one which is solitary, the one which strays from the flock, and the one which wanders off. So avoid the branching paths and keep to the general community, and to the places of worship.”
