It's curious to me why the author felt his chapters on a melanoma in the eye fits in a book of neurological disorders...

My brain gave up on one of my eyes when I was born. We tried vision therapy when I was younger but it was not successful due to me not wanting to play runescape with an eyepatch on.
I had no idea that people with one eye have issues with depth perception as I have never had that problem. (I have a very accurate catch/throw/reaction time) and that my brain was able to train itself perception with one eye as I grew up.

Just what I hoped for in an Oliver Sacks book, but more poignant than his earlier books because his own story is included.

I did skip a bit, but everything in this book is interesting. I'm surprised by how much I like this book. The writing is spectacular, especially for a more scientific book. I don't think this information will ever be useful for me, but it's pretty fun to know more about the way human brains work. I recommend this to … well, I don't know who I recommend this to. But I recommend it. I really do like this book :)

"Language, that most human invention, can enable what, in principle, should not be possible. It can allow all of us, even the congenitally blind, to see with another person's eyes."

"Wandered out with Kate to the bookstore to get some large-print books--dismayed to find that almost all their large-print books are how-to books or romance novels. I could hardly find a single decent book in the entire large-print section. It is as though the visually impaired are also regarded as intellectually impaired."
