Status Updates From Slow Bloom (Slow Bloom #1)

OK, time for me to face the fact that I'm probably not going to ever come back to this one. It had started to feel pretty repetitive, and it was probably hindered by the fact that I didn't read it in one fell swoop, but I'm calling it. New(ish) year, clean slate, all that.

It was rather entertaining for a long while, though. And the sex was humina humina hot.

So, because of life and work and blahblahblah, I've been quietly reading this one in the background for about a month. But every time I pick it up, I'm back there with them without missing a beat, and it has officially hooked me.

It's imperfect in all kinds of ways that bother the hell out of my editor brain, but somehow, it's still compelling.

Okay, this one I'm starting over but won't put back on the TBR because it's a challenge book that I need to finish before September...and I'm likely to forget it if I don't leave it open.

There really is a whole lot of sex in this book. I know I complained in the last update about how the teased fetish scene never played out, but damn, everything else sure is. I'm almost at the point where I want to just skim the sex scenes. There have been what, 6 or 7 already and I'm only up to Chapter 4 & a little over 25% done. I'm kind of over it all. What the hell is up with that?

WTF? A fisting scene is practically laid out, ready to go...with, "letting the glove snap against his wrist once it was on." Only, for the encounter to end with no description of the action.

Seriously?

That's like, I dunno, filming a porno and then calling, "Cut!" before the come shot, and deliberately not recording it or including it anywhere in the production at all.

I call massive, bitch-face FOUL!

Starting with this one - should be good, hopefully, after a few mediocre reads!

Phone sex --- unbelievably sexy, explicit, phone sex. These guys are so endearingly dirty. So so good.

This book is deeellliiicccciiiiioooouuusssssss. Jack should provide a sex for beginners service.

How it eventually ends will determine the rating I guess. Despite the sheer amount of sex/smut in this book, it actually manages to makes some points.

Age gap is always tragic, especially when it is too much. 30 years in this case. Even if the book has HEA, imagine Ricky when 50, and Jack dead at 80; when it is too late to start over.

It is depressing.

This makes me cringe so much. Seems like pwp at its best/or worst.

Ooh boy; there is nothing slow about this. For fucks sake; it has a classic porn openning. The one with the maintenance guy and the homeowner.

This book will not go as beautiful as I expected from Ms. Crow and Ms. Fox I guess.

The writing may be kind of weird, but damn this is hot.

Yowzaa! It's not just the incredible sex scenes. There really is a decent plot going on. The characters are fascinating. One older man who is one seriously cool dude, a grouchy writer who hangs out in a bathrobe, and one much younger man who seems sincere, honest and very likeable. There is so much that turns me on here, not just the sex. It is smokin hot.

I was in the mood to read this again so here I am. Its got a lot going on - including the giant elephant, the 30 year age difference. Oddly it has never bothered me that much where normally I would be skeeving. I think because neither of our MCs make excuses for their behavior. They enjoy themselves and grow to love each other over time. It's pretty straightforward. Oh, and very very hot.
