Before even starting this book I can answer the question - it's because humans are for the most part selfish and stupid that we can't have these nice things.

Fun book but starting to be a little long in the tooth. The section on airships, self-driving cars, and space hotels definitely could use a refresh to spruce the place up.

Thought it was interesting that the underwater habitat piece never really caught on... still very niche though it exists.

A little dated but interesting nonetheless.
