If after all this nonsense Frank gets to marry Lucy, I will be so pissed. That man does not deserve her.

What an interesting turn of events. I do feel bad for Lizzie (never thought I would say that) but also she brought this upon herself. And now she is so deep within her lies that of course to extricate herself from them is impossible.
Also why oh why is Frank the hero of this story? That sorry character of a man who has left a loving fiancee to pine away while he makes time to meet Lizzie whenever possible.

Lucy is maddeningly stupid. She is so in over her head about Frank that she would rather upset the people who took her in and treated her as family and are even now trying to protect her than for a second use her head and realise that Frank is not what he seems. Such a stupid chick. Trollope did say in the beginning that just as much as Lizzie isn't the heroine of this novel so isn't Lucy as well. For which I am glad

I didn't like Frank from the beginning and his actions especially since coming to Portray haven't changed my opinion. Lizzie is heartless so I am not surprised at her being crafty and false. And neither am I surprised at Frank and his unfaithfulness because that is what all this is. Both of them deserve each other. Lucy could do much better. I initially thought Lady Fawn wrong to discourage the match but not anymore.

Lucy is too good for Frank. I still don't trust him and I hope he doesn't hurt her.

It was good that Lucy stood up to Lizzie but I hope that Lizzie doesn't cause some mischief for her with Frank especially now since her own engagement with Lord Fawn is precarious.
I understand Lady Fawn's inhibitions regarding Frank but I do hope they don't prove true.

I don't care much if Lizzie's engagement is broken but I am worried that if it be the case, it might spell tragedy for Lucy and Frank as well. Though Lady Fawn- nice as she is- is doing very well by herself in that quarter. I don't like her interfering between Lucy and Frank.

The whole 'will he or won't he' had my full attention in this chapter. It's certainly an interesting turn of events. I do wonder if both of these marriages will come about though. I want Lucy to be happy and while I think it honourable that Frank after his declaration did offer for Lucy, I am still skeptical about it all. I guess it's John asking Frank to marry Lizzie, is that hint to the future? Or nothing at all

While I feel bad for Lucy, I aslo think her absolutely foolish to be devoted to Frank as she is. As for him, I don't much like him. He says he loves Lucy but won't marry her and then tells her that should he ever marry it would be only for money and position not love. Like wtf is Lucy to do with that. Girl should have dropped his poor ass. Yet the story has only just begun so let's see where this all leads to.

I am glad that almost all the women in this novel can take a measure of Lizzie's true character. Some of the men too but in general they don't see past her beauty and wealth. In a way it's sad too but since Lizzie cares for no one but her self and as we have been told, she isn't a likeable character, I don't feel too bad for her. I wonder if this marriage with Lord Fawn will come off.
