Zipes, you disappoint me. You spent time explaining what Planche left out of Villeneuve's version and that you did your own, and this is even more sanitized than Planche. I was hoping for something closer to Dowson's translation.

Just popping in to say I find it amusing that Zipes, who had been doing an excellent job explaining the context of the literary fairy tale, used the word sadomasochistic to describe the brutality found in works written some 80 to 100 years before the word sadistic existed. That word and the more modern understanding is derived from Marquis de Sade and his vile book.
