Again... my big problem with con bio is the lack of consideration for the wellbeing of individual animals in the name of conserving an entire species. So much of the focus is on protecting species not for their sake, but for ours

It's frustrating how much of conservation biology is focused on the economic value of organisms and ecosystems. I'm glad there was a section in Ch 3 about environmental ethics that touched on this, but many of the considerations listed were also extremely human-centric. Like, maybe we should preserve biodiversity because it's not our right to fuck it up for every other species? Not just so we can keep utilizing it?

This was a textbook for a con bio class I took in college. We just read excerpts from it though, so I figured I’d read it all the way through now. It was published 10 years ago but I imagine most of the info is still pretty relevant. Should be a nice refresher!
