Helpful and insightful on craft, book offers clear guidance on how poems are built and why people are drawn to the format. But I push back on the idea that poets are “born." That feels unnecessarily exclusive. Technique matters, but without heart, soul, and individuality, poetry falls flat. I believe anyone who writes a poem is a poet, that every attempt is an act of creation: take the craft, skip the gatekeeping.
