Like the other Verghese books, I’ve read , it’s a requirement to read his books with Google nearby. Learned a lot about mid-20th century Ethiopian medical practices and historical/cultural references. Tender family relationships explored, immigration and medical training examined, plot intricacies kept me guessing. Love the writing of Verghese.

Quite the compelling saga. Read this with Google search at hand to understand the medical references and historical/cultural references to mid-20th century Ethiopia. Very elevated writing, character development, and plot

Took me about 120 pages to get into it but now I'm into it!
