One of the reasons England lost the war was how long it took their soldiers to read this book.

I sure hope that plucky and patriotic young silversmith doesn’t get into trouble making that special order on the sabbath.

The building of a nation told by a writer who really grasped history in it's finest detail.

The books stood still and seemed to say "We can speak to you-open the covers and put your eyes on our letters and you will find we speak- we only seem to be silent." - p.173 - So very beautiful the words in this book that you don't want to miss a thing as the words to speak to you!

16 ratings now. Still 1 review, but soon to be 2, if I can cobble one together. The only other review of this reads, in full, "The first chapter was very difficult. Once we got to the history, it was very captivating. I love the realistic descriptions of how life was in the 1700s and on." I hope I can do a little better.
(Pffft, 16 ratings. There should be more!)

"We never mention Aunt Clara,
Her picture is turned to the wall,
Though she lives on the French Riviera,
Mother says she is dead to us all."
(Full song, performed by awesome bearded guy)

Starting the Epilogue. It's 77 pages long, though, so I'll probably finish tomorrow.
Then I'll spend the next week or two reading short books, because I've earned it.

You will please me for the love I bear you--by reading this manuscript in the sequences I have carefully arranged them--book by book--and may it be that as you live with these repeating faces that weave a blood-scarlet thread over and through the history of our country--may it be that you find tokens and values worth your time in living with them and my time in the many years I have given them...
