Why isn’t Melody seeing an SLP or occupational therapist?? She is clearly very bright and knows how to communicate but physically can’t do it, so why isn’t she seeing a specialist?

I am re-reading this book because my 6th graders in the fall are going to read it in my class, and I need to refresh my memory on some aspects of the book before I begin teaching it. Let’s see if my opinion of this book have changed any since I last read it in 6th grade :)
