Some things that standout about this book so far:

1. No hand holding whatsoever. It's more of a compilation of original texts, and secondary but closely familiar sources (such as discussions of the subjects and their works by thinkers and historians a couple centuries later)

2. Footnotes mostly cite ancient poets, and dont explain jack shit, just straight "here is where it's from, do whatever the fuck w it"

Say what you will about chatbot prose quirks (awful, hate them) but at least it wasn’t modeled on ancient philosophy. “Gallant does the good thing, Goofus does the bad thing. Shall the things done by Gallant be counted among the bad things? Assuredly not, for no bad thing is a good thing.
