The actual book is 400 pages so I’m over halfway. The rest is appendices and what not.

He also does this annoying thing of reminding you that the pope wasn’t supposed to come from outside of Rome and the law just gets ignored. We get it man, at some point they stopped caring.

He does this annoying thing where whenever certain terms, such as “pallium”, “Monothelitism”, “Arianism”, etc. come up he gives a definition in parentheses. We’re in the 8th century and pope #89. The constant rehashing of these phrases is not needed.

So far, not too bad. There’s some “well, akshully” on certain details about the early popes, but he clearly articulates the historical moments these guys existed in, which is cool and fun.
