Also, Wintrow is just the best. This family is full of strong willed and brave people and Wintrow is the best of them all. He knows what he wants, he knows his values and he doesn’t compromise on them. What I truly love is how Wintrow is very unbiased in his POV - we get to see Kyle’s hurt and anger that his son is rejecting his attempts at bonding, rather than Wintrow just assuming he’s awful like Althea does.

I feel so much for Keffria and I am so happy that we get her POV. It adds an entirely different light onto the characters - from Althea’s perspective, she’s clearly got a negative outlook on everyone but her father. Whereas Keffria is trying so desperately to see the good in her husband, and she shows the reader that his badness is likely due to his ignorance and unwilling to learn rather than being fully evil.

See, Hobb will just weave in this tiny detail that’s absolutely horrifying, but do it so subtly and naturally that I barely register it and then I’m rereading sections to fully grasp how awful it is. Poor Keffria…what does trading in the Rain Wilds do to those who bare children???
