This book is a delight, an actual reading book, not a textbook, even though it was conceived as a textbook. People were intelligent in the 1960s. Students I mean, not like today’s who study sciences and engineering and business. Liberal studies is kept outside of school.

The more I read the more I like this book. Wanted to make notes on Columbus. History is time and space travel. Can’t get enough.

Skipping to 1815. Wars with Britain were finally over. From 1783 to 1815 a lot had happened. The North wanted to go it’s separate way. No time to read about Burr and how Alexander Hamilton died. For now I need to understand the Civil War which is quite a ways from 1815.

I usually look for more recent interpretations but this is quite good.

A very good survey of American history. I have finished the first volume which ends around 1877.
