I love Horace. Halt is dying, but he wakes up and is lucid for an hour. What does Horace ask him? A heart to heart talk? Last minute instructions?
Nope. Horace asks for the recipe for campfire bread.

Worst moment of the entire series. Still gets to me, even on the umpteenth re-read.

John Flanagan is one of the few authors who can pull off having characters fail and make mistakes without having those characters get less cool. That is really hard to do, especially in book 9 of a series with such well established characters.

Horace is officially a small child playing with a ranger cloak. "Can you see me now?" "But what if I wasn't riding a giant battlehorse?" <3 <3 <3

The problem in this book is that the outsiders are not only evading and almost killing Halt, but they are terrorizingfarmers to get them to join their religion. The outsiders have killed thousands and have taken hundreds of thousands of dollars. If the rangers do not stop them soon, the outsiders will become too powerful.

In the book Halt's Peril Tennyonson is the main unsympathetic character. He is the leader of the new cult called the outsiders. He steals money from the many people by tricking them to give offerings to a false golden god. He then destroys their city and moves onto the next. Halt, Will, and Horace are trying to track him down, but Tennyson has managed to shot Halt with a poisoned arrow which almost killed Halt.

The last of the assassins were cleared, as they found out the cure of the poison. Halt became more stronger and was way more determined to chase down the outsiders after getting better.

Halt, will, and Horace chased the Outsiders to Araluen. But then, one of the assassins the outsider's hired, shot Halt's arm with an arrow that was dipped in poison. This caused panic over the boys, and forced Will to travel farther south to find the countries most famous healer.

One of the main characters in the book Halt's Peril is Halt. He is usually sarcastic but is always helping will and Horace. This starts to show that he is a selfless person and cares about others. He has dedicated his life to protecting the people of Araulen knowing he might die while doing it. He has also been protecting Hiberria from an uprising cult. He always puts others in front of himself and never is selfish.

The moment Horace mentioned that they were traveling close to Macindaw (this was a long time ago), I knew that, sooner or later, they would have to get help there. And now, Halt has been poisoned and Will is going to Macindaw to get help from Malcolm the healer.

Once Halt and Will realize that the Genovesans have set a false trail and are going to ambush them, there is a lot of suspense. They are constantly checking on all sides to find the Genovesans. Then Halt and Will are planning and wondering if they should have gone after the Genovesans in the first place. And finally, Will hears Halt scream, his bow dropping on the ground.

Someone mentioned this book and the previous could have been combined and I am inclined to agree. There is quite a bit of description around the tracking process that could have been minimized. Still a good series,

510/510: I can't relate to the main character of my book. Will is an intelligent. He has very sharp senses and is witty. Will is very capable being an expert at archery, horse riding, planning, fighting, seeing without being seen, and is super smart in general. I'm not like Will because I can't always think of things on the spot other than public speaking. I also can't do all the things that Will does.

The purpose is easily entertainment and he is just trying to write something interesting. There really is no direct message it just depends on how someone perceives it.

238/527. Halt, Will, and Horace have been tracking down Tennyson's gang when they were ambushed by the Genovesans. They are elite assassins hired by Tennyson for protection. So far two of the three assassins have been killed and the last escaped back to the gang. Halt's arm was grazed by a crossbow bolt and made a cut that, "hurt like hell."

1 detail I came up with while reading was that there is a place called One Raven Pass, it can be referred to as caves.

If you reach this book in the series, DO NOT READ THE BLURB. It literally spoils the entire book and makes it suck. I just got to halfway through the blurb and the second half will be the second half of the book. So annoying. There is no suspense, and I know exactly everything that will happen. Disappointing.
