I love this book. It's not particularly exciting, but the characters are good, and it's SO interesting reading about the Civil War from both a North and South perspective. You love the characters from both sides, and it's really thought-provoking. The first book was easily a 5 star read. So far, this is a four, but i still have a thousand pages to change my mind.

It’s ok…. Good parts but kind of drones on & on at parts. Think I’m gonna take a break & read something else.

The slavery of ignorance is as wicked as any other kind.

Blame is often placed where it doesn’t belong simply because any explanation of chaos, however ludicrous, is better than none, and people would go mad without one.

In Washington? It’s a morass of chicanery, stupidity, witless paper shuffling - but self-preservation has been raised to a high art. A few faces may change, nothing more.

I appreciate what John Jake's is doing here, and how he tells his story. But damn... he just glosses over these legendary battles like they're just a bad day at work. C'mon, man. Give me at least a little something to chew on! Gettysburg was just a couple of paragraphs 😣

Some good American classics, this series. I read the first one this time last year and I was surprised by how good it was. It was the events leading up to the Civil War. Now the war has started, I'm excited to see how it's portrayed here!
