The chapters regarding grace and “kindness” to yourself helped me more than the concrete advice for dishes and laundry. Do care tasks to serve you and your family, household for the future. Rest times for all people in the family. Joy in movement.

A well organized and easy to read guide that helps us see chores as care tasks and not as a testament to our value as a person - something I actively work on in therapy. Some notions are things I’ve already implemented, but I’m still finding great takeaways. With a clinical approach, Davis also incorporates mental illness, and surprisingly, privilege as factors for why it might be hard to keep a tidy house.

Have your systems and routines work for you, not you for your systems or check lists. Coordinate fair REST times with spouse, although work may look different for the two. Create momentum, confidence, thru small tasks and go from there.
