substantively, really engaging read. trying to figure out why I can only take small bites of it. could just be a gap in preferred style. one of my struggles with reading this is sentence construction - the frequent emphatic and intermingled use of "not just X but also Y" and "not X but Y" means I need to pay even more attention to the intent of sentences. "and" with italics could be a clearer alternative.
