Status Updates From Unthinkable: A Queer Gothic...

Reflections - there were aspects of this story that I really enjoyed, but I didn't fully get the ending

Bodies of water - I loved the mystery and tenderness in this, though parts of the conclusion were a little unclear to me

Reynardine - I really loved this one. It had a lot of classic horror tropes without being predictable, and the conclusion was very satisfying. The creature was very creepy and I could really picture it all

Sea salt and strawberries - probably my favourite so far. Ethereal, beautiful, tender, bittersweet

The Wellkeepers - strange science haunted house vibes, I enjoyed the themes of identity and change, the different kinds of victims and how empathy and understanding can supercede communication

The Dead Space - a sweet, fun thriller and interesting take on vampire mythology

Clutching Air - short, sweet and heart wrenching. Such a succinct look into closeted grief

Vestal - I loved the vivid imagery and shifting narratives, though there were moments that the style of writing felt a bit stilted

Raion kuïn - religious trauma, mythology, suspense. I really enjoyed this story and the conclusion, however found it difficult to enjoy/sympathise with the secondary romance due to the age gap

Bess and the thrasher bird - wow what a beautiful story. So fierce and so sad - when I first saw the trigger warnings for this story I was a bit unsure, but it was a really powerful reinvention of the original poem

All Sweet Souls - a great introduction to the anthology, I enjoyed the ambiguous nature that left a lot of things unanswered, and even the conclusion was a mystery
