The New York Times compared the short story collection to Borges, and it feels earned. I say this less about the quality (high as it is) and more about how it takes this idea - an anthology of tales from a completely fictional country - and explores it to the greatest extent possible. Marche is gifted at pastiche, perfectly imitating a range of distinct literary styles. Elaborate, elegant, and so compelling.

Bought this on an impulse at Dollar Tree about five years ago, and I'm so glad to finally get around to it.

I don't get this book at all. Not sure what the author is going for.
