This is a political book; the sketch of a foreign country where I spent a day or so under two months; of a country which has already provoked a huge number of books, many of them by residents of life-long experience.

His characterization of Mexicans in chapter one has dampened the enjoyment I garnered from the introduction. Also, there are many hyperbolic statements alluding to history that is patently false. I am going forward sceptically from here. Racist or just arrogant? I don’t know.

Jajaja this guy is such a smart ass! Very clever. Without doubt, Mr. Evelyn Waugh would have been fun to have a cigar and whisky with, and if he were around, no doubt, he would oblige! He must have been the life of the party in his day!
